The Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) is an organisation comprised of twenty-five jurisdictions of the Caribbean Basin Region, which have agreed to implement the international standards for Anti-money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), the Financial Action Task Force Recommendations (FATF Recommendations) in order to protect the international financial system from money laundering and financing of terrorism (ML/FT) risks and to encourage greater compliance with the AML/CFT standards, the CFATF identified jurisdictions that have strategic deficiencies and works with them to address those deficiencies thatpose a risk to the international financial system.

A brief outline of the monetary and exchange rate policy of the Central Bank of Suriname - 4 April 2016
Currently, as discussed at inter-institutional level, the Bank’s focus is on supporting the development of the foreign currency market so that, through the operation of the forces of demand and supply, the exchange rate market calms down and ultimately reaches equilibrium. The greater involvement of commercial banks in this process is crucial, given their role in financing international trade and in settling local and international payments.

This first edition of our Country Profile has been produced by the Statistics Department of the Central Bank of Suriname. The Profile provides an overall picture of the Surinamese economy with graphs and tables covering up to 10 years of economic and financial data. Various international comparisons are also included to help place Suriname’s economic developments in a broader regional context.
